Dr Amrita Narlikar is Distinguished Fellow at the Observer Research Foundation (ORF). She is also Honorary Fellow at Darwin College, University of Cambridge, and non-resident Distinguished Fellow at the Australia India Institute, Melbourne University. Prior to taking up her new position at ORF, Dr Narlikar served as the President of the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA) from 2014 to 2024, and simultaneously held a full Professorship in International Relations at Hamburg University. From 2004 to 2014, she taught at the University of Cambridge, where she was a fully tenured professor of International Political Economy.
Dr Narlikar is the author or editor of 14 books, which have been published with some of the top, international publishing houses. These include her co-authored book, Strategic Choices, Ethical Dilemmas: Stories from the Mahabharat (Penguin Random House, 2023), co-edited The How Not To Guide for International Relations (centenary special issue of the Chatham House journal, International Affairs, 2022), single-authored Poverty Narratives and Power Paradoxes in International Trade Negotiations and Beyond (Cambridge University Press, 2020), and co-authored Bargaining with a Rising India: Lessons from the Mahabharata (Oxford University Press, 2014). Her research has also appeared in high-impact, refereed, disciplinary journals as well as agenda-setting edited collections.
